Bull tail

"In my stomach. Tonight. Check that off my bucket list." -Ariel

We went out for tapas with the girls on Calle Matteo Gago. The highlight of the night was definitely the above mentioned tapa: cola de toro or bull tail. Tapas are sort of like appetizers, but no main course to follow. You go out for tapas in the late evening around 9 or 10. Many people go on 'tapeos'- going from tapa bar to bar trying something different each time. It's sometimes compared to a 'pub crawl' except with food. We'll get around to it. So far we haven't moved around too much.

Last night, we went out as a bigger group and wandered around for a while. There are so many people out at night. I'm talking 11pm and you have eateries and (some) stores open, everything lit up, people everywhere. No 'dark alley' feeling. Anyway, we followed the music to la Plaza de la Encarnacion. There was a band playing some great traditional music and dancers. Tables and chairs set up in the middle of the plaza. Tons of people, great atmosphere. We sat down at a place a bit off from the crowd and split some tapa platters and some sangria. Another very popular wine and pop mix is "tinto de verano." Both served with ice and great options during the hot summer weather. (Though the nights really cool down.)

We went to Mass at the cathedral this morning. Actually, a chapel in the cathedral and then explored the area. We stumbled into Barrio Santa Cruz, the old Jewish ghetto. It is absolutely beautiful! The streets are so narrow you can touch both sides at once by sticking your arms out. There are a ton of cute souvenir shops and restaurants. The tiny plazas are very colorful, with fountains and trees. It felt like a flashback to Hania (Crete). I can't wait to see it lit up!

Hope to post some photos when I get wifi access. Patience is a virtue ;)
